Paul Nicholls - Trainer
Paul Nicholls’ achievements within racing are second to none. Paul was a successful jockey in his own right winning back-to-back Hennessy Gold Cups in 1986 and 1987 but his riding career came to halt in 1989 after breaking a leg. Paul started training in 1991 in Ditcheat, Somerset and sent out his first winner the same year - Olveston owned by Brian Nicholls, Paul’s father. Paul has currently trained over 1,700 winners including four Cheltenham Gold Cup winners, See More Business (1999), Denman (2008) and Kauto Star (2007 and 2009). Along the way he has earned himself four trainer’s championships and with 120 horses under his care it shows no sign of abating. Recently Paul featured in a short film promoting Somerset alongside other county celebrities such as Deborah Meaden (Dragon’s Den), Marcus Trescothick (Somerset and former England Cricketer) and Michael Eavis (Glastonbury Festival Founder).
